A Requirement of the Vice Presidency
Email This Post
I heard a lot this week about field dressing a moose and because I like to cook, I was curious what it meant. Google sent back pages of sites with details and recipes. Repulsed and riveted at the same time, I read through the 15 steps of field dressing and decided I lived in a different universe.
Just between us, any woman who can field dress a moose is not like the rest of the 150 million women in the U.S. It’s one of the grossest procedures you’ll ever be involved in – think autopsy for Bullwinkle.
One person who is very good at this activity is Sarah Palin, who according to Fred Thompson, is “the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose … with the possible exception of Teddy Roosevelt”.
This is not Julia Child tackling a 20 pound turkey. This is stalking, shooting, removing antlers, skinning, boning, slicing and dicing a creature that can weigh between 800 to 1600 pounds.
If I were stuck on a desert island, Sarah Palin would be a handy buddy to have along. But as John McCain’s running mate, and the possibility of being one heartbeat away from the presidency, her nomination terrifies me.
Last month, when asked in an interview about the possibility of becoming McCain’s running mate, she replied,” As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day?”
Too bad field dressing a moose is not one of the daily requirements of office.

Wow, thanks for posting this. Her nomination terrifies me also, but unfortunately I can’t talk about it in my magazine. Trust me, it was hard not to. So thanks again.

Hi Helga,
Bull’s eye! Or, should I say bullwinkle’s eye! I am all for a woman stretching and expanding her vision and living in the energy of possibility…but this too scares me. I see Palin being used as a political pawn. I wonder if she sees that…or if her ego doesn’t allow her to see it? I find it insulting that the politicians think that women will vote for Palin because of her gender rather than her qualifications. That scares me! On the other hand, maybe she can find Bin Laden with her skill at “field dressing a moose.”
