Mother of the Bride

Listen, it’s her wedding. She’s been waiting for this day for 25 years, ever since she received her first Barbie doll. The outfits she loved most were the wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses. She’d change those outfits a dozen times. Ken just sat around in his tuxedo. She didn’t fuss a lot about him.
Is the wedding a little over the top? Maybe, but they’re paying for it themselves. They haven’t asked for my help. She tells me they’ve been saving for the wedding for two years. Credit cards? I’m not sure. We don’t talk about money. She just tells me it’s all fine.
Frankly, I’m a little worried. Her company is downsizing and she was let go. She said the wedding would take her mind off it and give her something to look forward to. Yes, he’s still working, but they always depended on her income to pay for the big things. They still have that expensive honeymoon coming up. I wonder if I should say anything.
What does he think? He says whatever she wants, that’s what they’ll do. She doesn’t want to economize on the wedding, so they’re going ahead with all the plans. She’s handling everything. He jokes that all he has to do is show up in his tuxedo.
Something doesn’t feel right about this, but hey, it’s their life. “
