A Child’s Wisdom for Mother’s Day
Email This Post
If you’re a mom, think back to what your children taught you at different stages in your life. Here are a few things mine taught me. I’m still learning how to apply them consistently.
When in doubt, choose for the child.
Apologize quickly. Children are quick to forgive.
Ego has no value between parent and child.
Wait to be asked before giving advice.
Bless children’s initiative…and let them fly.
Love children lavishly with words and deeds, not things.
Comfort them first. They have less experience with pain than you do.
Respect their boundaries. They will share what they want to.
Just because the neighbors say so doesn’t mean it’s true.
Ask if you need something. Children can’t read your mind.
Thank them for feedback. They’re telling you they want to be closer.
Keep their letters. They are a record of their journey.
Don’t assume they’re not afraid just because they grow up.
Honor their choices by listening to their reasons.
Honor their growth by being flexible and receptive.
Own your imperfections.
Honor their schedule.
Keep your promises.
Hold fast their secrets.
Show your tears but don’t demand they dry them.
Gift wrap matters.
Cutting the cord is literal, not figurative.
Testing your courage is its own adventure.
Live lightly, laugh often, give thanks.
